Top Wedding Tips 25 - Couples Portraits

If I can give you one piece of advice, leave the family back at the hotel. Don't bring an entourage with you to get your photos taken. By all means bring your bridal party, you can have the bridal parties photos taken and then take some time alone to have your personal couples portraits taken. Believe me you won't regret it, who wants Aunty Brid staring at you while your getting cosy with your beau?!

Top Wedding Tips 24 - Preparation

Preparation is key in the run up to your wedding. It is so important to be organised on the day. Especially when it comes to things like jewellery, shoes, underwear etc.

Ideally, all these things should be laid out and to hand for yourself and for your photographer when they arrive. Your photographer will automatically ask for:

Your shoes
Your jewellery
Your perfume
Your dress
Your underwear
The rings
Bridesmaids dress
Bridesmaids shoes
Any Bridesmaids gifts
Your flowers
Any accessories you plan to wear on the day

If these are close at hand it saves your time and theirs on the morning of the wedding.

What brought you to the world of makeup?

A very twisted path and lots of different jobs led me to here. I kind of fell into it by accident  but loved it from the first minute.

What is your favourite makeup look at the minute?

Trends come and go, but my favourite look will always be beautiful flawless skin. I love strong brows and lips .

What products can you not live without?

Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream . The only thing for dry lips and a great multi tasker.

What should a bride have in her bag before leaving for the ceremony?

A pressed powder compact to combat shine and a beautiful lipstick. I love Chanel Rouge Allure, Sisley Hydrating lipstick and L’ancome Rouge in Love.

What trends do you think will be popular with this year’s brides?

I try to steer Brides away from trends and go for classic beautiful timeless makeup looks. Do you really want to look back in 20 years and think “oh god that was so 2013 “

Any skin care tips for brides in the run up to their big day?

Skin care should always be a priority , not just in the run up to the big day. I tell all my brides that how they look on the big day is 50% up to them , and i will do the rest. They must put in the work with their skincare routine . Regular facials are important, but more important is the home routine. Cleanse tone and moisturise morning and evening, exfoliate with a gentle exfoliator twice a week and use a mask once a week. A nourishing night cream is vital as is eye cream used am/pm .

And of course the most important advice of all. Drink loads of water !

What do you like to do on your day off?

Turn off the phone, walk my dog, hang out and do as little as possible

Sweets or savoury?

Don’t make me choose! Both of course!

Top Wedding Tips 23 - Arriving at the Ceremony

It's not a race between your driver and photographer. Idealy your photographer should be there to photograph you as you arrive but trust me it's a mad dash from the brides home to the church for the photographer so tell your driver to slow down and enjoy the ride.

Also if it's not lashing rain, ask the driver to roll down your window, this makes for some stunning photographs.

Top Wedding Tips 22 - Fake Tan

I've been putting off this post for a while now.

I know, you're Irish, most of us are pastey white but from a photography point of view fake tan is a no-no. If it's not done well, your hands and feet will be different colour to the rest of your body, it may rub off on your dress if you sweat a bit on the day. The main reason is, unless your hubby to be is going to indulge in fake tanning the colour difference between the two of you will be the first thing you see in the photos. It also casts an orange tone in your photos which is nigh on impossible to get rid of.

Don't say I didn't warn you.

Kelly & Rich, Wedding Photography, Ritz Carlton, Powerscourt, Wicklow

Kelly contacted me months back to photograph a section of their wedding day.

They came all the way from the US to spend St. Patrick's day in Ireland and to get married. They where the most excited couple I have ever worked with and I think it shows in their wedding photographs.
