Katie's Tips - Tip 7 Group Photos

This is something most couples forget about in the run up to the big day. Take time to inform anyone who is needed for the group photos that they will be in them. Chose a location and make sure everyone knows where to be and why. If you can assign someone to round up these people on the day it will make the whole thing run much smoother.

Katie's Tips - Tip 6 Light

Ok so you've asked your photographer to come to photograph you and your bridesmaids getting ready. Brilliant. Next step is to make sure where you're getting ready has plenty of natural light, This will ensure that you get stunning preparation shots that you will cherish for days to come.

Katie's Tips - Tip 5 Couple's Portraits

Couple's portraits are a very important part of the day. I always recommend that a couple take 40 mins to an hour away from the madness of the day, not only for couple's portraits but to have some time to yourselves. This will be the only time you will be alone on the day of your wedding so savour it.

Katie's Tips - Tip 4 Booking a Photographer

Having met my fair share of couples over the years I have come to the conclusion that there are four main things to consider when choosing your photographer.

1. Have they much experience?
Do they know what they are doing? It's all well and good to get Uncle Tom from down the road to do your photos but does he know what he's at? Does he know how a wedding should flow? Your photographer is an integral part to your day and will help you out a lot throughout the day. Pick wisely.

2. What's their style?
Every photographer has a different style of photography. This will influence their albums and design of albums also so make sure you like what they are doing.

3. How much have you got?
This is usually the deciding factor. Make a list of all your priorities, put them in order of importance, then allocate a budget to each one and begin shopping around. If you find a photographer who costs more than your budget allows go to the bottom of your list and see what you can knock off down there.

4. Are they sound?
Ok they're a super talented photographer but are they nice. Do your personalities gel? I've heard some nightmare stories from couples about wedding photographers taking over the day because of their gra to get 'that shot' your photographer should suit the both of you. Remember you'll spend a good percentage of the day with them

2012 in Review

2012 was an exciting year for me. Every year I set myself a list of goals. I design a poster, print it a0 and mount it at the end of my bed so every day I wake I am reminded of my goals.

For 2012 one of my goals was to get my wedding photos published. I was successful in this by April when a wedding I shot in France the previous year was featured in Chic Weddings magazine. Woohoo! SUCCESS!

Time to move the post. I then decided I wanted to get a wedding featured on OneFabDay  This was a bigger challenge than I thought. After a couple of false starts and a steep learning curve as to what is blog worthy I finally had the wedding of Eoin and Sal featured on the blog. Yippee! Celebrate good times, come on.

I had so many fantastic couples in 2012. It was my first year giving it a real go as a wedding photographer and I am so happy with everything I did. From Stephanie & Declan's Wexford Civil Ceremony, Eoin and Sal's Vintage Kerry wedding to Nichola and Ian's country carnival themed wedding, Niall and Jane's intimate soiree in Dunmore East and Deirdre and Johns Today FM helped Passage East wedding, (to name but a few) I had a ball at every single wedding.

Here's to many more successful years for Katie Kav Photography, god knows where it will bring me but I'm looking forward to it already.

Katie's Tips - Tip 3

Choosing your bridesmaids is a tough task. Choose wisely. Tradition dictates that you should ask your sisters or your future hubby's sisters however if they don't suit your wedding maybe it's ok to choose a friend. Your bridesmaids need to be your right hand women on the day so they can't let you down.

Make sure all the girls are in their dresses before you as you should always be the last to get ready. They should be on hand to help you in to yours.
