Marina is an old college friend of mine. We've kept in touch over the years with our bi-annual college reunion nights out for any of those that stayed local enough. Andrew was also my personal trainer at the time of their engagement so who did they ask only little old me to be their wedding photographer. (I definitely would have been able to beat them up if they didn't with all the mad skillz Andrew had thought me over the last couple of months)
Marina and Andrew's romance started in the most unlikely of places, an MMA club. Andrew was in the cage getting ready for an upcoming fight while Marina was hitting the bag at a women's MMA bootcamp class. "I should have been concentrating on my combinations but I couldn't keep my eyes off Marina. She had a red face, shortness of breath and a sweat…and I couldn't have been more drawn to her." - says the main man himself.
About a year later, Andrew was supposed to fight in the Battlezone Featherweight Title, both the families had bought tickets, including Marina's brother and partner Gill who where coming over from London especially. However the whole show was cancelled at the last minute. Never one to look at the negative Andrew took it as a sign, he had bougt the ring two weeks previous so on the Friday he brought Marina to the same restaurant they had been to on their first date. What Marina didn't know was that the restaurant had actually closed down. Andrew wanted to get Marina to the bridge outside that restaurant, where on our first date after dinner, he had asked her to hold his hand, to which she had laughed and said, “No…I’ll link you!". This time while walking across the same bridge I stopped and asked her to marry me and she said yes! They stayed in Mount Wolseley that night which was where they would celebrate their wedding the following year. The next night they surprised their whole family with the news at an intimate dinner.
Romantic Glamour was the theme of the day and boy did it live up to expectations. The guys really put their stamp on the whole day. It helps that Marina is a very talented Graphic Designer and designed all the invitations and other printed items for the big day, meaning everything matched. Love a bit of matching.
